Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Unexplained Weight Gain After Getting A Stroke?
I had a stroke a month ago (pons)....I have gained at least 10 lbs and my eating and/or exercise has not changed at all....in fact, I have been exercising more because of the discomfort of being so heavy so fast....does this have to do with thyroid or metabolic changes?
Hi Thanks for your query. I appreciate your concern for the weight gain following a stroke.
Since you have a regular pattern of exercise and normal diet, these are unlikely to be the cause behind the weight gain. However, there may be possibilities of hormonal imbalances like thyroid hormones, metabolic changes, medications being prescribed, etc.
So, you are advised to consult your treating doctor for a proper workup and to find out the exact cause of weight gain.
Hope this answers your query.
