What Causes A Hard And Painful Lump At Injection Site After Blood Donation?
donated blood today. Was an uncomfortable feeling today and after a few seconds they loosened the cuff and it felt better but not as benign as usual about five hours later I developed a very hard and painful lump. have a warm compress on it now but it is painful
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have develop hard lump after the blood donation. Well you have hematoma formation due to simple collection of blood due to minor injury to the very fine blood vessels under the skin by the needle during the procedure of blood collection. Due to this blood gets collected and causes swelling over the site. There is also possibility of infection at site but less chances . The swelling and pain will disappear if it is caused due to hematoma formation. If the swelling does not disappear within few days, you can consult your primary health care provider for clinical assessment and thus management. You can take a pain killer such as paracetamol round the clock till you see a doctor. Do not massage or do any type of compression or application over it.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
