What Causes Tightness At The Back Of Tongue Along With Swollen Uvula?

about an hour ago I found a tightness at the back of my tongue. My uvala (sp?) appears to be greatly enlarged and I an having trouble swalling. I have a viral cold for a week with lots of coughing but have not had a sore throat. Should I be concerned enough to go to the emergency room?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain as you have cold and now you have tightness in the back of the tongue and swollen uvula it clearly indicates that you are suffering from VIRAL PHARYNGITIS and UVULITIS as a result of infection causing inflammation and congested feeling..
You should do warm saline gargles..
For pain and discomfort take Ibuprofen 400mg THRICE A DAY..
If you still experience cold and congestion you can take Sudafed twice a day and nasal sprays to clear congestion..
Steam inhalations will relieve..
Use a humidifier at home..
Throat lozenges like Vicks cough drops will soothe the throat..
Avoid spicy and hard foods and take a soft diet..
Avoid cold water..

Hope this information helps..
