Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Tightness And Mild Pain On Right Side Of Head And Jaw?
Lately I have been experiencing a sudden rush feeling on the right side of my head that leaves my right jaw feeling stiff, and tight and with a little pain. I have had this sensation before over many years, but lately more often. After a few days, the stiffness in the jaw goes away, until the next episode. I do have hypertension for many years but it is controlled ( 125/75 - 140/90 ). I am quite active as a runner and swimmer.
As per your query you have muscle stiffness on one side of the face . The symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards a condition known as bell's palsy . Bell's palsy is a form of temporary facial paralysis resulting from damage or trauma to the facial nerves. Most cases are thought to be caused by the herpes virus that causes cold sores. I would suggest you to consult neurologist for proper examination . Doctor may order tests like electromyography and CT scan to confirm the diagnosis and to rule out cause like trigeminal neuralgia . Doctor may prescribe antiviral drugs ( acyclovir) and corticosteroids . For now do facial muscle exercises and physical therapy of facial muscles .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
