What Causes Throbbing Pain In The Head Above The Ear?
I have a throbbing pain on the right side of my head about 3 inches above my ear - it s not really a headache, it s more of a feeling like a pulsing pain that comes and goes. I can touch it on my scalp and locate the pain. I m wondering if it s related to sinus problems (of which I have many) or if I should be concerned. Thank you.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have throbbing pain in the head above the ear which can be cause by many factors like ear infection, tympanic membrane rupture, stress , wisdom tooth, temporomandibular joint problem , cervical spondolysis and increase blood pressure. The symptoms can also occur due to clenching of teeth during night also known as bruxism. I would suggest you to keep putting antibiotic ear drops. You should take antibiotics along with anti inflammtory medicines like ibuprofen and diclofenac. Take steam inhalation. Avoid excessive hard substance eating. consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order certain test like audiometery , CT scan ,MRI , low and high pitched ringing to rule out conditions like hearing loss , exposure to loud noises , earwax build-up , middle ear infection. Doctor may also refer you to dentist in case of bruxism or TMJ problem.
