about 6 hours ago, I noticed the left side of my throat was scratchy and then an after that I could not talk or swallow without pain. All I keep on doing is spitting and it s clear. Sometimes it feels like something is draining in the back of my mouth but it s spit. Under my tongue feels dry. I took benadryl and still swollen. Please help.

Hi,

Throat irritation along with pain on swallowing indicates pharyngitis. Try taking paracetamol (or ibuprofen if severe pain) tablet three times a day after food for three days, along with frequent warm saline gargles. If symptoms are not getting down by 2-3 days, or fever comes, kindly see your doctor as we may need an antibiotic too.

Dry mouth / tongue is because of frequent spitting- frequent sips of water will help.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
