What Causes Thick White Discharge From The Ear While Having An Ear Infection?

My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with double ear infections when I had her seen on Dec. 22. The pediatrician perscribed her Amoxicillin twice a day for 10 days. My daughter hates the medicine & refused to take it. When I did get it down her she would spit/throw it up almost immediately. I took her back on the 28th & they said that her ears looked good. On Fri. 30th I noticed that her right ear was draining some clear fluid. Today she complained of her ear hurting a little. I looked at her ear & it was draining quick a bit of cloudy sticky discharge. She has been sleeping & not complaining about her ear....But, when she went to sleep on the draining ear I noticed that it looked cloudy/white, thick, sticky & globby. I am concerned.

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that discharge of thick white cloudy and sticky discharge is due to infection in ear leading to pus discharge. Pain along with discharge further confirms the signs of infection. I would suggest you to consult an Otorhinolaryngologist and get an Otoscopic examination done.

She can be advised antibiotic and analgesic ear drops and along with it oral antibiotics and painkillers is also mandatory for relief. Also avoid picking the ears to prevent damage to ear drum. Avoid excess water exposure to ears like swimming.
