What Causes The Sensation Of A Lump In The Throat?

Hello for the docs there, I am a 24 y.o. female. I have this problem and its probably going on for a couple of days. It has something to with my throat. I feel like something is stuck in there and I've tried to snuff it out but failed to do so. Instead the lump just went farther my throat and it feels like it's gonna go down my air passage when in fact I can normally breath...it's just my feeling. After a couple of days, it started to itch just a tiny bit of itch but negligible... I tried coughing it out, drinking lots of water but nothing happened. It started I think when I was eating fried chicken and I was eating too fast and I probably swallowed the white hard thing...not the bones but probably you would call that the cartilage and after that I started feeling that's something is stuck on my throat. My question is if it's really food that is causing that lump, will it just rot and disintegrate on its own... I mean it's cartilage...not some bits of popcorn or anything. One friend told me to eat some chunks of banana and swallow it without chewing it... and maybe chances are that the stuck food will probably be removed. Pls help him.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello

Welcome in H.C.M.

I have gone through your query regarding sensation of lump in the throat.

As you said there is feeling of lump in throat which gives you sensation that some thing is struck in your throat, all these features are most probably due to GERD or LPR.

GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease) and LPR (laryngo pharyngeal reflux) are disorders or diseases of throat caused by hyperacidity in stomach. I would like to suggest you these basic things for getting relief-

1- Avoid spicy / fast food.

2- Avoid smoking.

3- Drink sufficient fluids

4- take proper rest.

5- Took Antacid with PPI.

Probably above will be helpfull to you otherwise consultation with ENT doctor will become necessary for examination of throat and relivent investigations for diagnosis and treatment.

Regards.
