What Causes The Odd Behavior Of The Wife When Grieving Over The Husband S Death?
This is a psychological disorder question. A friend of mine lost her father last week. His death was expected but still hard on her. To make matters worse she said her mother s behavior was shocking. Her parents got married when they were 15 and 6 hours after he died she pulled all of his belongings out of dressers and closets and threw them in the garbage. Someone at the funeral mentioned her being a grieving widow and she corrected them saying she was a relieved widow. She was also extremely disrespectful at the service for her husband. My friend said her mother has always been extremely odd and difficult in this way. Is this a type of dissociation mental disorder? It just seems there is something psychologically wrong here and am curious what it might be so I can help my friend cope.
Such behavior is not a mental disorder. It is a way of coping up with loss. Everyone grieves differently and takes there own time. Some people are in denial and refuse to accept the situation the way it is. Your friend's mother is trying to be the strong one here by showing that her husband's death has been a relief. Some people have blocked emotions and don't show them as freely as others.
Even if one doesn't have cordial relationships with their spouses , their loss deeply effects them. Some people move on in life with this baggage and some get immensely distressed.
There is nothing wrong with your friend's mother as she has different way of coping with the loss.
