What Causes The PSA To Jump To 7.6 From 2.4 In A Year?

I am a 68 year old male. I have been taking Diavon for several years for blood pressure. My PSA every year for several years has been 2.4. This test has been done every year. The DRE and urine has been negative. These two test are done every 6 months. This month the urine and DRE was negative but the PSA was at 7.6 I had hip surgery 2 years ago and things didnot go well during the surgery. In short I lost and received 5 pints of blood. Other than a possibility of cancer, could there be some other reason for my PSA to jump from 2.4 to 7.6 in a year? My Urologist has me schedule to go back to see him in 6 months.

Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
I understand your concern.
I am Dr Arun Tank, Infectious diseases specialists, responding to you.

Most likely it is prostate cancer. But PSA velocity will be more helpful in diagnosis. So do your PSA again after a six month and check for how much above they had gone. If it is much higher surgical option should be think of.

I will be glad to answer your further query.
Thank you for your contact to health care magic.
