What Causes Tender Lymph Nodes In Groin During Menstruation?

Hi I have very tender lymph nodes on right side of groin area that happen everytime on 1st day of menstrual cycle and lasts til about 3rd day. I am 48 years old. Also, have severe lower back pain and leg pain along with it. Does this mean my immune system is low at this time of month or possibly something else? Thanks Stephanie

Hi,I am Dr.Shreyash Mehta, MD Community Medicine

As you told that you are having very tender lymph nodes on right side of groin area that happen everytime on 1st day of menstrual cycle and lasts til about 3rd day.

When the Groin(inguinal) lymph nodes are found to be enlarged, their territory of drainage, i.e., the trunk inferior to the level of the umbilicus (including perineum, external genitalia, and anus) as well as the entire lower limb should be examined.

The lower back pain and leg pain may be due to some common causes like osteoarthristis.

You should undergo a check by your family physician during the period of menstrual cycle. You should get a different count done to rule out infection/ pathology.

You should also have a PAP smear to rule out any pathology of the cervix (lower most part of uterus.
