What Causes Syncope With Dizziness?

I am a 62 year old female, I have high blood pressure, but take diovan hct160/12.5 anf it is under control. I have been having sudden faint and light headed or dizzy feeling which only last a few seconds and then they are gone. This may happen maybe 2 or three times a day. They don t happen often, except for here lately for the last several months. I am concerned about my health.

Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to low blood pressure or to a cardiac arrhythmia.

Do these symptoms occur when standing up, or in every position (lying, sitting or standing)?

I would recommend consulting with your doctor and performing a careful physical exam and some tests:

- a resting ECG
- a chest X ray study
- some blood lab tests (complete blood count, blood electrolytes, fasting glucose).

An ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring would be necessary to examine your heart rhythm trends for a more prolonged time.

A Head Up Tilt test would help rule in/out possible orthostatic intolerance.

Meanwhile, I would advise you to closely monitor your blood pressure frequent times during the day and refer those values to your doctor.

Hope to have been helpful!

Best wishes,

Dr. Iliri
