What Causes Swollen Tongue And Taste Buds With High Fever And Cough?

My daughter has a high fever, cough and sore throat. I tried looking at her tonsils but it seems the back of her tongue is swollen. I can't see her tonsils, uvula or any of her throat at all. My sister noticed that some of her taste buds in the back are swollen. What could this be? Just a cold like virus?
