What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes And Diarrhea?

Hi. My mother was diagnosed with swolen lymph nodes, partial blockage and also kidney stones a few weeks ago. She has had a full collectomy about 20 yrs ago. And now, diarrhoea has started. As soon as she drinks or eat anything. Is this reason for serious concern?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
History of full colectomy was 20 years ago; diarrhea has started recently and diagnosed as swollen lymph nodes, partial blockage and kidney stones a few weeks ago.
Hence the most probable diagnosis can be intestinal obstruction with spurious diarrhea and need the following in such a situation:
Take your Mother to ER urgently.
Have an X-ray of the abdomen in standing position so that a obstruction can be diagnosed.
Tests of blood for CBC, electrolytes, liver and kidney functions helps further.
Tests of blood and urine also to be done.
CT scan of the abdomen with water soluble contrast helps in finalization of diagnosis.
3 days of clinical trial with conservative management in the form of intravenous fluids, antibiotics, electrolytes can help in some cases and rarely a surgery may be required if the conservative management fails to give the solution.
