What Causes Swollen Lymph Node In The Neck?

Hi. I have had a swollen left gland for nearly a week and no sign of it reducing. It hurts a lot when I swallow. Have been taking paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief but once worn off the symptoms remain. I have also had a very stiff and achy neck although that seems to have got better. Headaches also present. I looked in my mouth and can t see very much but the roof of my mouth at the back is yellow
