Hello, If there is persistent pain with soreness involving neck along with lymph gland enlargement, there may be possibility that the drug is not working over the causative organism through bacterial resistance or else. In my clinic, I do recommend a culture swab of throat for precise diagnosis and further antibiotics accordingly or empirically change to macrolides as azithromycin or else which has excellent coverage for this type of conditions. However, till approaching the doc, gargles with salted lukewarm water and turmeric powder mixed in skimmed milk will help you a lot for symptomatic relief of sore throat and pain.
