What Causes Swollen Lump In Lower Left Side After Removing Wisdom Teeth?

My daughter had her four wisdom teeth removed three weeks ago. She did everything as the doctor asked and felt fine after the first week. Today she noticed a lump in her lower left side and it is visible swollen when compared with her right side. It is also painful to the touch. What could this be after three week?
Thank you.
A worried mom!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...

A painful lump three weeks after the extraction of wisdom tooth is not a common finding and is an indication of infection at the extraction site which is leading to inflammation and swelling..

Another cause of swelling and pain can be a left over root piece or foreign body impaction in the extraction socket which might have become active now causing inflammation and swelling..

You should consult your dentist and get her evaluated and get an IOPAR (X-ray) done..

In case of root piece or foreign body removal of the same followed by antibiotics and painkillers will relieve..

In case if there is infection with nothing left over antibiotics and painkillers will help..

Do cold compresses over swelling..

Hope this information helps..

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Post-surgical swelling is a common problem encountered after the removal of wisdom teeth. The amount of swelling is proportional to the amount of surgery required in removal of tooth. In most cases, it fully resolves by day 7 after the procedure.Swelling that persists beyond 7 days should be evaluated by your dentist.
In meantime u can do warm saline gargles 3-4 times a day

Hoping your query is solved
