What Causes Swollen Legs And Clear Liquid Discharge From Skin?

Yes...My mother ( age 79) has legs which are so swollen that the skin has split and is oozing clear liquid. Her calves are stretched so tight that they look and feel like wood. She is slim from the thighs up but her knees, ankles....are quite large. She spends hours elevating her legs to decrease the weaping she calls the fluid leaking. She is vague about what she is taking for a diuretic. She hasn t gone anywhere for weeks/month...due to this problem. What can I advise her?

She requires to be admitted in a hospital where they will do blood and urine tests.her kidney function has to be assessed ,sugar bad BP has to be checked,and she needs physicla examination of legs to decide on the next course of action.swelling of legs is called edema and it is very severe then the legs will be hard like wood and the swelling is so severe that skin is split that is leading to fluid leakage which requires dressing after proper diuresis and she may require hospitalisation for 4days to 1week.
