What Causes Swollen, Itchy And Dry Lips?

A year ago..almost to the day...I woke with my lips swollen, itchy and dry on the edges. The swelling has caused creases in my lips and most doctors just say this is my age..but I NEVER had it until the morning I woke with this problem. I have been to a dermotologist and been given steroid type ointments but they do not help. In desperation...because this type of condition is showing up on my arms and legs ( I have bumps that itch terribly and also hurt) I tried using the antifungal cream we had on hand and it has helped a very little bit. I m at my wits end because no doctor seems to think this is anything other than eczema!

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

Brief Answer -Angioedema

Detailed answer - As per your query you have symptoms of angioedema. swollen, itchy and dry lips is because of leakage of small blood vessels into surrounding tissues and causing swelling and allergic type reaction.

I would suggest you to start with antihistaminic medications and anti inflammatory medications such as corticosteroids. If there is difficulty in breathing along with your symptoms take Zantac. Take epinephrine shots as well.

Your symptoms will relieve in 5-7 days. If your symptoms keeps on persisting visit general practitioner once and go for blood tests and allergy tests as to find the exact cause of allergy in you and prevent its usage. Drink alot water.
