What Causes Swollen Gland Under The Tongue?

I have a swollen like vein under my tongue just on the left side. My jaw on that side is swollen and you can tell that its bigger than the other side. I have Lupus I don t know if that could have anything to do with it or not. I ve been to the dentist recently and I don t think it s from cavity. I ve had it for maybe a week. It goes down and then flairs up.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query in detail and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain swollen vein like under the tongue along with swollen jaw on that side seems to be most probably due to causes like obstruction in the salivary gland caused due to formation of crystalline stones known as Sialolith in the duct of the gland leading to pooling of saliva in the gland and the duct that causes expansion of gland and duct and appears as swelling..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like x-ray or MI scan can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

In case of obstruction in the duct if the stone is superficial then the physician can remove it with palpating and pushing it towards the duct opening and remove it.

Deeper stones can be removed surgically under guidance of Sialoscopy..

For detailed discussion you can also ask a direct question by going to my profile and click on Ask me now..

Any further questions are welcome..
