What Causes Swollen Big Toe?

My big toe on my left foot is swollen, more specifically on the outer side. On the outer side, just to the right of the nail, it is puss filled and is becoming more swollen and puss filled each day. I have been experiencing this for 4 days now and I am unaware as to what is causing it. It hurts an extreme amount when pressure is applied to it, especially when walking.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
thank you for posting your query in healthcaremagic.com....

well from your description, it looks like paronychia which may have developed cellulitis or an abscess...
do the following-
maintain cleanliness...
hot compress...
tab coamoxyclav 625 thrice daily 5 days...
tab ibuprofen 400 twice daily 5 days...
tab pantoprazole 40 once daily before breakfast 5 days...

if it does not decrease in 2-3 days....
visit a general surgeon for incision and drainage of pus...

hope this was helpful...
regards
