What Causes Swollen Ankles When On Lisinopril?

I take 10 mg lisinopril a day . I have been on this a long time, but now recently my ankles have been swollen during the day. Should I also be on a diuretic either herbal or script? I also have been recently drinking a lot of coffee and don't know if this has an effect or not

Hello
You are taking LISINOPRIL 10 mg for long time . Now , you developed swelling on ankles .
Diuretics , you can take ( as you asked but only after the consultation with your doctor ).
When lisinopril is taken blood pressure reduction is increased by salt water & retention.
As you mentioned that there is ankle swelling , so this swelling may be due to these possibilities ,these include.
1 Chronic renal failure , diagnosis can be confirmed by blood examination for serum creatinine , blood urea and ultrasound of kidneys.
2 Congestive cardiac failure , diagnosis can be confirmed by ECHO and ecg.
I recommend you please consult a cardiologist and get his opinion because swelling over ankles in a patient with hypertension is a cause of concern.
Good luck.
