Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had sharp knee pain climbing stairs three months ago. The knee was swollen and difficult to bend. The swelling has gone down. But I develop pain and stiffness in the leg after short walks or standing for couple of hours. There is not much pain in the knee. I take Ibuprofen occasionally.
I can understand you concern and would try to help you in the best possible way. Knee pain with swelling and stiffness could point to arthritis. A careful clinical examination of your legs is required to get a better idea of your problem. Also you may need a few investigations including calcium and vitamin d levels and x ray of the affected joint to get to a diagnosis.
I suggest you consult a doctor for a diagnostic workup and appropriate management plan which may include medications, physical therapy and other therapies as needed.
In the mean while you may apply warm compression over the affected joint and also begin light exercises in consultation with a physiotherapist to avoid stiffness from progressing.
