Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swollen And Painful Cyst On The Armpit?
I am 43 yr old male. I had small pea sized cyst in my right armpit for a few months. Suddenly it has swollen to the size of large marble, and is tender to the touch and moderately painful. I called my doctor for an appointment, but it will be almost 3 weeks before I can see him, should I go to the clinic instead?
Hello, Thanks for the query. I have gone through your brief history and I can understand your concerns.
All the symptoms you have mentioned suggestive of axillary abscess. It is nothing but a collection of pus under your skin. you don't need to worry regarding this as it can be completely cured with timely treatment. I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get the following things done:- 1.The abscess has to be drained to clear the pus and debris,a general practitioner or a trained nurse can easily do it. 2.A short course of antibiotics may be needed for five to seven days. 3.If you have pain, you can take simple analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. 4.Warm compresses over the affected area provide symptomatic relief. 5.check your blood sugar level to rule out diabetes which can cause recurrent abscess. Hope I have answered your query. Wishing you good health.
Regards. Dr.Shinas Hussain
