What Causes Swelling On Legs, Ankles And Feet When On High BP Medications?
I have been on medications for high blood pressure for several years. Over the last week my lower legs, ankles and feet have begun to swell when I stand or walk through the day. The swelling is relieved when I prop my legs up. Is this a serious problem? What could cause these symptoms?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swelling on legs, ankles and feet when on high BP medications . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like peripheral neuropathy , hypertension , gout , kidney disease , DVT or venous insufficiency . But in your case the symptoms are probably due to side effects of blood pressure medicines. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order CT scan or x-ray along with blood test and urine test . Doctor may recommend physical therapy or prescribe anti inflammatory , muscle relaxant .For now keep your legs in hot water tub with Epsom salt for 15 minutes daily and keep your legs elevated while lying down . Doctor may also prescribe allopurinol . Also consult your cardiologist and discuss the condition . Doctor my alter the dose of bp medicine or prescribe substitute .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
