What Causes Swelling Of Lower Lip And Chin?

My lower lip has swollen and it seem the area between my lip and chin is very sore to touch . I feel a bit off but it might be because I am worried of the xtent of the allergic reaction. I went to an orthodontist this morning to make impressions of my teeth for braces. Could it be something in the clay product? I called them and they said no one has ever been allergic before. The other thing is they gave me some salt on my tongue for anti-gagging.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain swelling of the lower lip and soreness of chin after dental impression can occur either as an allergic reaction with any of the components of the impression material though it is not a frequent finding but may happen in some cases.

It may also be due to any component of salt which was given to you.

One reason can be that during the impression procedure the impression tray may cause injury to the mucosa and soft structures inside the mouth if excessive pressure is applied leading to soreness and at times some swelling..

You may also be allergic to the latex present in the gloves worn by the dentist.

In some conditions if the allergic reaction is not severe and is not causing you any botheration, the symptoms subsides after few hours of the removal of the allergen.

But if you have any other associated problem like anxiety, hives, rashes, difficulty in breathing etc or if the symptoms keeps progressing you should immediately consult a doctor and get an anti allergic treatment .

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
