I believe it to be an ecoli here is my question- my lips swelled up like angelina jolies and I have not seen the lip factor in any list of symptoms I haven t seen a doctor because at a lecture on 0157 they said patients fared better without medical treatment.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Yes, swollen lips have nothing to do with the food poisoning you have as you have assumed. It is possible that you have had an allergic reaction to some food item, allergen in the air or from the insect bite.

You should start taking antihistamine to control the reaction. You can take either Levocetrizine 5 mg (Levocet) or Loratidine 10 mg (Lorfast) for 5-7 days once a day. This should control the allergic reaction.

You can take Norfloxacin (Norflox) 400 mg twice a day for 5 days for the stomach infection you are suffering from. If your lip is swelled due to bacterial infection, this antibiotic course can control the swelling, too. Keep drinking lots of fluid to prevent dehydration and have soft diet that is easy to digest for a week.

If the swelling does not come under control or decrease in 2 days, then you should consult a physician or dentist for examination of them and further investigations and treatment.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HCM. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
