What Causes Swelling In The Foot After Injecting Heroin?
I RECENTLY INJECTED HEROIN ON THE BACK CLOSER TO THE SIDE OF MY LEFT LOWER LEG ABOUT 6 INCHES ABOVE MY ANKLE. THE NEEDLE I USED WAS NEW,IT REGISTERED WITH BLOOD WHEN I INJECTED THE HEROIN. IT STARTED TO HURT IN ABOUT AN HOUR AND TURN RED WITH SWELLING. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I WOKE MY FOOT IS SWOLLEN AS WELL AS THE AREA THAT I INJECTED AT. IT HURTS BAD WHEN I STAND ON IT AFTER SITTING OR LAYING FOR MORE THAN 10 MINUTES. ITS BEEN THREE DAYS NOW THE REDNESS IS DARKER THE SWELLING IS 3 TIMES BIGGER THAN MY RIGHT FOOT. I DON'T SEE A HEAD LIKE A REGULAR ABSCESS AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MY ENTIRE FOOT SWELLED UP AS WELL AS WHAT I COULD DO TO STOP WORRYING THAT I MIGHT LOSE MY FOOT

We evaluate the patients with these symptoms for both cellulitis and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). because patients with primary DVT often develop a secondary cellulitis, while patients with primary cellulitis often develop a secondary DVT.We prescribe broad spectrum antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication and advise relevant investigations to confirm diagnosis. Patient should consult with surgeon and addiction psychiatrist for comprehensive managementas patient needs agonist treatment like buprenorphine or methadone to prevent injection heroin.
