What Causes Swelling In The Arm?

Years ago I broke my elbow and it was repaired with a metal plate. 10 days ago I fell and hit that same arm, but below the elbow, about mid lower arm on the sidewalk. I did not break the bone, but a large swelling appeared on my arm, got darker as the days went on and is only slightly reduced in size. It is uncomfortable to the touch, but otherwise not painful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi i do care for your concern.
Your history suggest more of hematoma formation.
Usually this condition takes two to three weeks to resolve completely.
If there is no pain then medication is not needed, if pain arises then antibiotics along with pain killer will be needed.
Hope i have answered your doubt, If you have more feel free to ask.
Thank you.
