my daughter has a hip prosthesis, due to staphylococcus infection in 2008 that ate away at the ball joint of her hip...She has swelling in her legs, more in the left one.......she has been doing a lot of physical work at her new home.......could that be the source of the problem? they also swell when she flies.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

There are many reasons of swelling in legs ( may or may not be related to prosthesis).

Probably the prosthesis impinges upon the blood supply or venous drainage or lymphatic outflow tract causing back pressure and swelling.

High blood pressure and damage to kidneys, heart, liver diseases and blood vessels diseases all may cause seellings in legs.

Some medications cause swelling, one example is Amlodipine taken for high blood pressure.
Is she taking any such medications??? Consult her physician to check medicines.

Any history of hepatitis?? Get her Screened for that.

Ask her physician for heart kidney and liver check up to see any issues.

Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
