I recently found out that i am diabetic and just last night my feet and ankles started to swell up enough that I cannot see the regular bones that are usually apparent and they are obviously swollen. I have no pain, itching etc. just the swelling. Can you help me please?

Pathologist and Microbiologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM,
Diabetes mellitus is not directly responsible for swelling of feet and ankles.
Swelling of feet and ankles is seen in cardiac disorders and kidney related disorders.
Cardiac involvement may co-exist with diabetes mellitus however, diabetes mellitus is not directly responsible for the swelling.
I suggest you to initially consult a cardiologist for clinical assessment, investigations and thus management.
If no cardiac abnormality is found, kidney disease may be responsible for the swelling.

Thanks and take care
