What Causes Swelling Around The Knuckle Of Finger?

I cut my index finger with a kitchen knife just above the knuckle three days ago. The soreness has gone down and I ve gained more motion, but the finger continues to be quite swollen near the knuckle in particular. The cut itself is primarily shut, and only seeps very minimal blood when aggravated.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain it seems that there is soft tissue inflammation and hematoma formation at the site of injury leading to slight pain, swelling and mild bleeding..
The area does not look infected and as the swelling has slightly reduced you need not to worry about it..
You can start doing alternate warm and cool compresses over the swelling..
Apply a combination of steroid and antibiotic ointment over it..
Maintain appropriate motion and do not exert the finger and also do not touch the area again and again..
In case if there is pain you can apply a numbing gel over it..
It will resolve in a week or even less but in case if it still shows no improvement consult a General Physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
