What Causes Swelling And Severe Pain In Knee?

Hi Doctor, I appreciate very much your valued services. I have a severe pain in my right knee and on some days my knee is slightly swollen. I find it very difficult to squat on the ground. I have been working as an Executive Secretary for over 40 years and have been seated for long periods during the day and sometimes in the nights too. Please help me. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. May God Bless you and all your patients. Chandrika

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that the symptoms are due to arthritis.

This causes pain and swelling to occur. There are different types of arthritis but the most common are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

An x ray may be needed. Rheumatoid arthritis may also require blood tests to be done.

There are pain killers that may be able to help you.

Initially you may try medications such as ibuprofen, naproxen, voltaren.

I hope this helps
