What Causes Swelling And Inflammation On The Middle Finger?

Middle finger (about one inch from tip down) is swollen and red, no reason why. I thought i could drain any puss that might be there but nothing came out. It is painful to the touch and throbs, any idea what is going on? I did not jam or smash it, this started a few days ago and has been getting worse. Any idea on what is going on.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms are suggestive of cellulitis (bacterial infection of the skin) of finger. Treatment depends on the severity of cellulitis. Mild cases can be treated with oral antibiotics, whereas more severe cases require intravenous antibiotics. Please be advised to follow-up with your primary care provider to undergo proper evaluation and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
