What Causes Sudden Weight Gain And Irregular Periods?

43 years old with history of 40+ pounds unexplained weight gain in last year. Thyroid numbers are normal. Periods for past few months are averaging 15 or so days of bleeding. Some days are heavy and some days are light, but this is abnormal for me. I am a runner and eat fairly well, so not real sure what is causing all of these issues. My gym just blew me off as getting older.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. Considering your age, it is likely that you may have entered the perimenopause, somewhat early. You should get a proper clinical appraisal by a specialist, get a trans-vaginal sonogram and complete hormone profile which includes FSH, LH, serum estrogen, progesterone, Prolactin, insulin. Since you are already exercising well enough, it remains to be seen which hormone imbalance is causing this issue of weight gain. Further management can be planned as your investigations are reported. Hope this helps.
