What Causes Sudden Pain And Bruising On The Middle Finger Joint?

My husband just experienced pain in his middle finger that came out of no where. When we looked at the area of pain which was behind the knuckle where the finger bends, it was turning blue/purple like a bruise. But he didn t hit it on anything? Is this an emergency of some kind?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Welcome to the HCM
This is Dr Amit. From the presentation it seems there must be traumatic injury to the fingers or straining. Go to the ER. Get the X Ray done and start the treatment accodingly. Meanwhile take analgesic Diclofenac with anti inflammatory agents like serratiopeptidase to reduce the pain and inflammation. Apply strap bandage for the restriction of movements. Feel free to ask if you have any other query
