What Causes Sudden Episodes Of Spiked BP And Heart Rate?
Hello, for the past few months I ve had episodes where my blood pressure spikes and my heart rate is very fast A few times I have fainted. Then yesterday, I started to feel very tired and exhausted so I sat down to relax. I took my blood pressure and it was 153/104. I relaxed for awhile but started feeling worse so I retook it and it showed 197/104. I waited for another 15 minutes and took it again. It was 155/111. I decided to go to the hospital. At the ER, I was told it was anxiety. But they did an EKG, and the paper was printed next to my face and I glimpsed possible left atrial enlargement . The doctor never mentioned it and sent me home with an anxiety prescription. All day today I have felt weak and my chest has been fluttery. I decided to check my blood pressure and it was 163/119 with a pulse of 148. Should I seek a second opinion or could anxiety be the cause?
these readings of your blood pressure are not in normal range and these cannot be merely attributed to anxiety. You should be treated for hypertension as well.If your E.K.G. is really showing left atrial enlargement ,a further work up particularly with an Echocardiography is needed.
