Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband 82 years old had a sudden chills and shaking and cold yesterday. I covered him with blankets and put heating pad to his back and held him. It lasted about 20 minutes. Then I discovered he couldn t get out of his recliner. He couldn t lift himself up by legs and butt. This lasted another couple of hours. He could talk, knew me, could smile and could drink water and drink boost drink. Should I have called 911 and taken him to hospital? I t finally wore off and he was able to get up, with my help, and make it to bed. He seems fine today.
Sudden chills and shaking is a sign of infection. In elderly patients, infections can progress rapidly so it would be best to have hom checked by his doctor.
