What Causes Stomach Cramps Inspite Of Being On NuvaRing?

I ve been using nuvaring for about 2 months now. Today I experienced a lot of cramping, so I went into the bathroom and it was brown discharge and brown spots in my underwear. It seemed to look like my period. Is it normal to be on your period while still having the nuvaring inserted?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns . No, it is not normal to have periods while you are on nuvaring, as it causes withdrawal bleeding only after its removal.
Spotting and cramping can also be due to some pathology in uterus or genital tract.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated and treated accordingly.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
