What Causes Stomach Cramps And Frequent Bowel Movements?

For the past two or three days I have had some stomach cramps that have felt like menstrual pains. And I felt the need to have a bowel movement. Yet I could not go. I took some laxatives and now I am going, but the stomach cramps are still there and I still feel the need to go. I feel immediate relief after going to the bathroom but then within 10 minutes the cramps return. I really thought I was just just constipated but now that I am going, it s still there. I know I should go to the doctor, but I m hoping this is just normal. It did get worse after my husband and I had sex but I m about 99% it was NOT during the fertile times and it is too soon to take a pregnancy test, though that was my first thought. I ve been eating a lot more salad lately so I thought that could contribute as well. And to top it off, we took in a stray dog who we found out at the vet had tape worms. So there are a lot of things I m worried about. Any suggestions?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
Stomach cramps that go after after passing bowel movements to come back within 10 minutes is indicative of procto-colitis in most of the cases and hence the proper evaluation can be by the following:
Consult your Doctor and get the stool and blood tests.
This will give a prescription for a proper antibiotic, metronidazole and antispasmodics to get a relief.
If there is no complete recovery then ask for a referral to the Gastroenterologist who would perform a colonoscopy and further investigations to get a proper diagnosis and go for an appropriate management.
