What Causes Stomach Bloating And Pain After Barium Xray Of Small Intestine?
Hi, I had a barium X-ray of my small intestine today. During which I bloated up with gas and now several hours later am having pain on my right side along with the bloating and have had 8 soft bowel movements. Is pain normally a side effect of this procedure?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain bloating and loose stools or Diarrhea is a common finding after Barium swallow procedure and bloating occurs due to air entrapement in the intestines and diarrhea occurs as a side effect of the medicine used as a dye in the procedure. It can take for a few hours to about 1 to 2 days for the dye to get out of the system and the symptoms will get back to normal.. You should drink plenty of fluids to wean of the medicine from your body and you can also consult your treating physician and get evaluated and he can advise you medicines like Loperamide to reduce loose motions and Simethicone to relieve bloating.. Take a light meal and avoid spicy food..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
