What Causes Stomach Bloating And Breathing Problems In A Elderly Male?

My friend is 82years and he is now in the ICU. His abdomen is bloated tight and had difficulty breathing and was sent to hospital ICU. He had a biopsy done on his stomach a month ago and no trace of cancer. A tube has been inserted to drain out the fluid (which looks brown) and has been x-rayed and results will be out tomorrow. What do you think his problem is and what would be the recommended treatment.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Possible ascitis with hemorrhage and secondary infection.
2. Due to distension of abdomen, lung space is reduced and affecting breathing. Cause for fluid accumulation could be cirrhosis, malignancy or infection.
3. Fluid examination along with previous clinical history and other reports, if available, I can be more informative. Do get back with details.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
