What Causes Stomach Ailments?

Several weeks ago I found out I had a choledocal cyst, roughly the size of a quarter. I m scheduled for surgery on October 1st. My surgeon said it s grown into my pancreas and a small portion will have to be removed, also my gallbladder. It was found during a trip to my doctor for severe abdominal pain (I thought I had kidney stones). Anyways, over the last 2-3 years (and more so, recently) I ve noticed an increase in nausea, especially in the morning or right after I eat. It has been happening near daily over the last year or so. I thought I was just starting to develop a sensitive stomach or some type of allergy that I couldn t pinpoint, but I think this has something to do with the cyst. Most days (usually after dinner) I have stomach pains and end up in the bathroom 1-2 times in a two-or-so hour period prior to bed. I ve tried changing my diet, eating less, etc. but nothing seems to help the nausea or stomach cramps/diarrhea. Could these symptoms be related to the cyst since it s disrupting my normal bile flow? I want to ask my surgeon, but I ve had this issue in varying severity for awhile and didn t think about them being connected until now. Also, I m a 23 year old female, 120lbs, exercise regularly, non-smoker, healthy.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Since you are a known patient of Choledochal cyst and scheduled for surgery all the symptoms of pain in right upper abdomen, nausea in the morning and after eating, few times motions throughout the day may be obviously related to the Choledochal cyst.
Although stomach cramps with diarrhea may be due to some other causes.
I would advise you the following:
Get a review MRCP that is MRI Cholangio-pancreaticography, ERCP that is Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-pancreaticography and get the stent if advised so so that some of the symptoms may be abated.
This also gives the study for proper planning of surgery.
Have small frequent meals
Go for surgery at the earliest to avoid further complications.
I find this answer helpful
