What Causes Stiffness In The Hands And Clenched Fists?

i awake with very stiff hands. They are curled in fists and take effor to uncurl. Middle finger of right hand has to click to straighten, sometimes by pulling open with left hand. After waking and pulling hands straight there is no pain Have assumed I am balling my fist while sleeping, but this is a relatively new symptom, approx 1-2 months thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Most probably it will be an early sign of arthritis. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Ibuprofen or Diclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedics and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
