What Causes Stiffness In Lower Back Along With Tingling Sensation In Thighs?

I was told by my doctor that I have Meralgia paresthetica my left leg top of the thigh and I have to take gabapentin 100 mg and I am to take 2 capsules three times a day, now my left thigh get cold then hot and there is numbness and then the tingling, my left hip hurts and the lower back and if I am standing or walking to long my lower back feels like it tighten up, I have to stop and rest for the pain to ease, my question is what can I do about this, now from the information I have read, that it s the sensor nerve and the only thing that can be done is surgery, is there any thing else that can be done?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello ,
Welcome to healthcaremagic.com and thanks for sharing your concern with us.
The signs and symptoms are indicating that there is significant nerve entrapment resulting in such condition . Such pressure can be due to tight clothing , increased body weight , diabetes or rarely neoplasm .EMG should be done to rule out upper lumbar radiculopathy.
I would suggest you to loose weight and wear loose clothings . Nerve blockades can be tried if pain is too severe for temporary relief . Physical therapy is quite effective and I would suggest you to take proper PT sessions . Surgical decompression is the last option which is used in rare cases of MP who are refractory to medicine and other conservative approach.
Best Regards,
Dr.S.Tomar
