What Causes Sticky Bowel Movement In Infants?

Hi, My son is 18 months and I have noticed that he is crying every time he has a bowl movement. He has had mucus with diarrhea a few times but today he had a really sticky clear yellowish mucus and no bowl movement. Should I be worried? Oh and he has two hernias on in the belly button which seems to be healing and one in the abdomen above belly button.
