What Causes Stabbing Pain In The Rib Cage?

Hello, I woke up this morning to extreme stabbing pain in my right rib cage. It hurts to walk and breathe and I have very short breaths. Couldn't sleep last night at all and it just arrived early today. Is this just inflammation in the ribs/lungs? Or is this something to be concerned about?

Hi

I understand your complains. In my routine work i see several patients with this concern.
This kind of pain that you prescribe have several lung factors.
The inflamation of pleural space may cause this.
The costocondritis might be another factor.Pneumotorax (air in the pleural space) is another factor.
So my opinion is that you should some tests to explore the lungs as listed:
Chest X Ray p-a and right lateral view
Blood count, CRP, EKG
Abdominal ultrasound
And then to see which is the factor that cause the pain

Thank you
