Hallow Dear,

At the age nearing 60, any post coital bleeding has to be considered seriously. Such bleeding arises a suspicion of cancer of the mouth of the uterus (cervix).

It is not only a single episode; you are getting post coital bleeding repeatedly. So cancer cervix needs to be ruled out.

Please report to your Gynaecologist ASAP. After vaginal examination, if there is any growth or ulcer on the cervix, biopsy from that lesion will be taken for microscopic examination. This would clarify the dilemma.

If there is no visual lesion on the cervix, then, Lugol's iodine will be applied to see whether there is any suspicious area from which the biopsy needs to be taken. If that also is clear, better get your vaginal smear examined for Pap's smear.

After the results of these investigations, your further management will be planned.

If there is no cancer, it could be some benign growth or erosion on the cervix which causes such bleeding. These lesions can be treated easily by cauterization and/or antibiotics.

Also the Gynaecologist will look for any vaginal trauma responsible for the bleeding. If so, it needs attention.

I hope this gives you required message.
