What Causes Sporadic Crackling Sound In The Ear?

I'm having a crackling noise in right ear, not constant but sporadic. It happens when a machine is on, or water running, or just no other noise at all, started about 3 weeks ago. The noise is like the static you hear on a phone landline when not a good connection.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. A per your query you have sporadic crackling sound in the ear ,which can occur due to infection like sinusitis through Eustachian tube and ear wax accumulation. The condition is called recurring otitis media. The other condition that can cause such symptoms is tinnitus or pulsatice tinnitus . Doctor may gently rinse the ear using a bulb syringe and warm saline solution.

I would suggest you to again visit ENT specialist and start treatment by prescribing antibiotic (amoxicillin) course, perform cleansing of ear and treat infection like sinusitis if it is there. Give warm compresses to ear 2-3 times a day and use ear drops containing antibiotics and take rest. Taking steam will also be very helpful and avoid cold beverages.

Doctor may also prescribe supplement like ginkgo biloba.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
