What Causes Spontaneous Deep Vein Thromboses?

What would cause a 39 year old female to get spontaneous DVT's.The patient is 5'5 and weights 106lb. Last year, three weeks after a cesarean the patient developed two DVTs in her right leg and a significant clot in her left leg. It was later found that her ureter was cut during the cesarean and had cause a kidney infection. After a nephrostomy tube and a course of antibiotics the kidney was rechecked and was normal. The patients platelet count also returned to normal. Since that time the patients has been diagnosis with two other infection. Both of which were found through a CT and culture after a clean WBC. 6/27/2011 she started experiencing numbness in left leg. At that time there was no pain or swelling. After a examination on 6/29/2011 two DVTs were found in her left leg. She was scheduled for admittance to the hospital at 0800 6/30/2011. By the time she arrived at the hospital she was experiencing pain and swelling. Upon examination it was discovered that the DVTs were absent and a PE was present. Completely asymptomatic for the PE. Any theories, advice, or recommendations of test would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

General Surgeon 's  Response
HI,Dear, Thanks for the query from you for your painful ,swollen left leg, with normal WBC .1-I am happy that you are serious to know why this swelling and painful lt leg occured without any PE or DVT in lt leg ,developing 3 wks post-cesarian with lots of surgical complications being treated effectively.?2-In my opinion this painful swollen lt leg without PE or DVT is due to the post-surgical lt leg- Lymphedema of the left leg mostly due to extensive venous disturbances on the rt leg due to 2 DVT post-lcsc.3-In my opinion-possibility of mild infection with repeated surgical trauma is causing lt leg to swell and be painful.4-I would advise ER-Vascular-Surgeons checkup ,and would advise Tc-99 sulphur colloidal- Lymphoscintigraphy and there-after treatment by NVS treatments could resolve the issue of this patient.5-If treated on this line, the fear of your patient , should not worry you much.6-Hope this would solve your worry of the painful toungue lump.7-So urgtly take -the advise from the ER VAscular-Surgeon.8-Wellcome to HCM for any more query.
